Code of conduct

-for bachata Dominicana copenhagen dance community

On this page you can read about the kind of dance community we would like to create in Copenhagen. And what kind of behavior we expect from all participants at our events. We want to create the best learning environment possible – and we can’t wait to include you too!

Applies to all students, Teachers and other participants at events, workshops, socials and classes.
  • Respect – participate with respect for all other participants/teachers. No bullying, harassment, unwanted physical contact no matter the background (gender, age, nationality, identity)
  • Consent  – make sure that what you do is consent based on- and off the dance floor.
  • Space – Be mindful about others on the dance floor. If there are a lot of people – dance with smaller steps, fewer/smaller arm movements. It is supposed to be a good experience for everyone.
  • Feedback – Feedback is nice when it’s given properly. Remember, the social dance floor is not the place for teaching (unless you ask first or are being asked directly). It is also not on the social dance floor where you should expect your dance partner to teach you.
  • Hygiene – be mindful of your body odor, sweat, breath and general hygiene. A suggestion is to bring an extra shirt, deodorant or gum.
  • Inclusion – be inclusive and non-discriminative. Also towards newbies – we’ve all been there!
  • Invite – when you see someone you would like to dance with, ask them or reach out a hand (don’t pull, drag or in other ways force) – It is always OK to say a kind ‘no thank you’ or ‘not right now’ – this goes for both followers and leaders (we never know someone’s reason for saying this, and that’s ok)
  • Level – Remember your dance partner might not be on the same level as you. Always start by finding common ground/’speak the same language’ when you start the dance, before you start using fancier combinations or dips and turns.

We hope you enjoyed reading the code of conduct for BDC. This is one of the first steps in creating the kind of dance community we would like to see in Copenhagen! If you have thoughts or reflections on the topic, send us an email!
